WILLIAM V. MALPEDE BIO

Originally from the Chicago Illinois area, William demonstrated early interests in both music and film. While learning to play the piano between the ages of 8 and 11, he began to build up a repertoire consisting of American jazz and pop, and his own arrangements of main title themes from classic films. During his teens, he divided musical time between jazz bands and concert choirs, and also made (and scored) numerous 8mm short films.

William began to play keyboards professionally at age 17, for shows at Six Flags’ parks, and later for engagements and clubs around the Chicago area.He pursued a Bachelor of Music/Business degree at Elmhurst College where his teachers included Timothy Hays, Paul Westermeyer, classical pianist Georgia Mangos, and jazz director Doug Beach. After graduating, William began to compose and arrange for Susan Moninger, director and founder of the award-winning Elmhurst College Vocal Jazz Ensemble. Through collaboration with Susan, he met conductor Phil Reno, who hired him to play keyboards for a portion of the STARLIGHT EXPRESS National Tour. This engagement led to a 7 year period of touring as a keyboardist and assistant conductor for Broadway National Tours including CATS, JOSEPH & THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT (Donny Osmond), MUSIC OF THE NIGHT (Melissa Manchester and Betty Buckley) and MAMMA MIA!

In 1997, William decided to make the move to Los Angeles to pursue his early dreams of composing music for motion pictures. He attended USC, and received his Graduate Certificate from the USC Scoring for Motion Pictures and Television Program, where his instructors included Elmer Bernstein, David Raksin, Leonard Rosenman, and Christopher Young. Shortly after graduating USC, William had the opportunity to work as an assistant to Christopher Young on the film URBAN LEGEND. This engagement led to future work with Mr. Young as synthesizer programmer and technical assistant on such films as RUNAWAY JURY, SOMETHING THE LORD MADE, and AN UNFINISHED LIFE. William composed original scores for the feature films DUMPED, ANGELS DON’T SLEEP HERE, DOG GONE LOVE, the award-winning short, GAY COPS: PRIDE BEHIND THE BADGE, and FAQs. He has also appeared on several television shows including JESSE and THE WEST WING. Continuing his keyboard playing and music producing, William worked with has co-written songs with numerous artists including Rick Garcia, Rene Reyes, and John and Liela Avila, and has had songs placed in films including THE INTERPRETER, DOMINO, and TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: THE BEGINNING.

Current projects include orchestrations for recording artists Jennifer Nash and John Durrill, orchestrations for the hit musical BARK!, release of the punk-funk electro album SUPERSTAR (co-written with artist MZ A), and original music for the upcoming feature documentary, UNCLE ADOLF.
